We frequently get calls and emails from modelers asking us if we can "upscale" a small set of decals to meet their requirements for a larger scale model they are working on. For many projects, a small plastic model can be bought which will include a complete decal set. In many cases these decals have sufficient detail to allow us to recreate them in a larger size. Another option is to order a decal set (1/18, 1/24, 1/48 etc.) from Super Scale International or other places that specialize in complete decal sets for small models.
We created this page to illustrate our capability to take a small decal set and recreate the images in any scale the modeler desires, up to the practical limits of the decal stock and printers we use. We emphasize that in all but a very few instances, we will totally recreate the decal image in our illustration software. We are not scanning and "blowing up" the images to the larger scale...this could result in poor detail and pixelation. Depending on the complexity of the images, recreation can be a tedious and time-consuming process.
That's why you will pay a little more for Cal-Grafx decals, but we will stack up the quality and scale accuracy of our decals to anyone else in the business. We started with a small 1/18 scale set of decals supplied by the customer.
The results are shown below. We hope that when you compare the larger
sheets and graphics with the original, you will see the kind of quality
and scale accuracy typical of Cal-Grafx decals. The following are actual
photos of the printed or cut decals. No retouching of any kind has been
done to the printed images.
